Amerikastudien / American Studies: A Quarterly is one of Europe’s leading journals in the field of American studies. With a community of currently over 37,000 readers in at least 92 nations across all continents, we take pride in providing open access online to high-end, interdisciplinary research in the fields of American literature, culture, society, history, politics, media, language, and pedagogies. Founded in 1956, Amerikastudien / American Studies has its home base at the universities of Flensburg, Mannheim, and Marburg and ensures highest academic publication standards through a double-blind peer review process, a broadly international board of reviewers, and our collaboration with a professional publishing house.
The journal is currently accepting paper manuscripts, proposals for interviews or forum contributions, as well as proposals for special issues via amst@dgfa.de.
In keeping with good scholarly practice, Amerikastudien/ American Studies publishes work that has been written exclusively by academic authors. Work penned by, generated in parts by, or produced with the assistance of generative artificial intelligence will not be accepted for publication. Upon submission of your manuscript, please confirm that your work complies with these regulations.
Call for Manuscripts
Amerikastudien / American Studies is continuously accepting manuscripts for scholarly articles (8,000 words max.) for double-blind peer review. Manuscripts should be submitted to the editorial offices at Europa-Universität Flensburg and Philipps-Universität Marburg via amst@dgfa.de.
All submissions should be in MS Word format (.docx, 2010 and higher), preceded by an abstract in English of no more than 200 words, and following MLA 7th ed. parenthetical citation style. Articles should contain no references to the author.
Upon submission, please confirm explicitly that the article has not been previously published (online or in print) and is not currently under review elsewhere.

Call for Proposals: Forum Contributions and Interviews
Amerikastudien / American Studies also invites innovative, dialogic formats on current debates in the field for the forum section. Forum contributions should cover a spectrum of positions on a given issue and be curated by one or several moderators. For examples of this format, please see “Digitization, Digital Humanities, and American Studies” in Amst 68.1 or “Flashlight into Ocean Vuong” in Amst 70.2. Please send your proposals of topics, theoretical foundation, potential impact, and contributors to the General Editors at amst@dgfa.de.
