CfP: The 2013 Postgraduate Forum (PGF) of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Amerikastudien (DGfA) calls for submissions to this year’s conference. July 22, 2013

The PGF is an annual forum for all young scholars working in the field of American Studies who have completed their MA (or equivalent). This year’s PGF will be hosted by the American Studies department at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg from October 25-27, 2013.

During the three-day conference, young scholars present their current research – such as dissertation, essay, or post-doc projects – as work in progress and discuss it among peers. We welcome contributions from the various disciplines affiliated with the field of American Studies. The PGF offers participants a space to address diverse projects. There is no topical limitation and the format of the talks is open as well. Presenters may, for instance, give an overview of their project, discuss case studies, or focus on methodological or theoretical questions. We invite you to submit an abstract of 200-300 words by July 22, 2013.

In addition, proposals should include a brief biographical sketch speaking to your academic background, your research interests, and the current status of your project. We especially encourage young researchers who have little or no conference experience to participate. In order to leave enough room for lively discussions, presentations must not exceed 20 minutes. Accepted speakers will be required to send one-page summaries of their papers by October 7, 2013.

These summaries will be sent to all participants prior to the conference. Please send all proposals to: pgf@dgfa.de

Select contributions will be published in the peer-reviewed online journal COPAS (Current Objectives of Postgraduate American Studies).

Further information regarding this year’s PGF – including the conference program, travel directions, and accommodation – are available on our website: www.pgf2013.de/

We kindly ask that all participants (presenting and non-presenting) register no later than September 30, 2013 via our online form.
