The German Association of American Studies (DGfA) is following developments closely with regard to the current COVID-19 pandemic, in particular with respect to the realization of the association’s 67th Annual Meeting scheduled to take place in Heidelberg on June 4-6, 2020. Heidelberg University has set up a task force constantly monitoring the reports of health authorities, federal and state ministries, as well as national and international organizations with expertise on the issue of the COVID-19 virus and is committed to taking appropriate action to keep everybody safe and healthy.

In order to support the measures taken at the federal level and to contain the further spread of COVID-19, the state of Baden-Württemberg’s Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts has decreed that all teaching operations due to start at universities will be postponed until April 19, 2020. This is effective March 11, 2020, and is subject to continuous reassessment.

In the light of ongoing decision-making at both the federal and state level, and in close coordination with local organizers at Heidelberg University, the DGfA board will determine by April 25, 2020, whether this year’s Annual Meeting will take place as scheduled or will be postponed or canceled altogether.

Meanwhile, we kindly ask you NOT to pay conference fees until further notice. In the event that the conference will take place as scheduled, we will extend the deadline for the early bird special.

Please, check the conference website as well as the DGfA website for further information. Once the DGfA board and local organizers have determined whether or not the conference will take place as scheduled, we will also notify you via our mailing list.
