Playing the Field VIII: Video Games in American Studies

For the eighth iteration of the Playing the Field international conference series we invite scholars from around the world to Dortmund, Germany, to discuss the plentiful connections between video games and what is called “America.” From gamified hemispheric depictions of the American continent to playful negotiations of American cultures in the broadest sense, video games offer a crucial aesthetic with which to think and speak about America – and it is our hope to foster a critical and interdisciplinary exchange on such ludic approaches among scholars of all career stages.
In addition to the conference papers, we will host an interactive teaching panel for researchers, lecturers, and students to share their experiences on teaching video games.
