Final information and program for the annual meeting of the Historians in the DGfA at Augustinerkloster Erfurt, May 3-5, 2024

Dear friends and colleagues,

We received so many excellent proposals that we ended up with a dense, yet also very exciting program, with Kathryn Olivarius from Stanford University as our keynote speaker. We are looking forward to three days of stimulating discussions on many different perspectives on health in American history.

Please let us provide you with some organizational information about our conference. We will meet in the center of Erfurt in the beautiful Augustinerkloster (https://www.augustinerkloster.de/), which some of you might remember from our „history of American foodways”-conference in 2015. Meals (coffee, lunch, dinner) will be provided by the Augustinerkloster.  The conference fee covers food and the cost for the conference venue and adds up to € 120 p.p.. Please register for the conference by sending an email to Petra.Meersteiner@uni-erfurt.de. Payment details will be provided with the registration confirmation. The number of registrations is limited to 80.

We also have a number of rooms on hold in the Augustinerkloster until March 18, 2024, for those who want to sleep where Martin Luther studied and prayed as a monk. Please make your own arrangements for travel and accommodation. Prices in the monastery vary between € 109 and € 129 per night for single and between € 159 and € 169 per night for double rooms. For bookings, please contact the Augustinerkloster directly at info@augustinerkloster.de or call them at 0361/576600 and let them know that you will be coming for the conference. For other, less pricy options from € 20-120, you may make reservations in one of the many hotels or hostels nearby. Since Erfurt is a rather small town, not staying at the Augustiner overnight is still very convenient and usually does not mean more than a 10 minute walk from/to the monastery. We recommend for instance:

PLEASE NOTE: We have not been able to block rooms in these ho(s)tels. Ho(s)tels in Erfurt tend to be fully booked quite early, particularly for May and June. We highly recommend that you make your bookings as soon as possible, especially if you are looking for accommodation in a particular price range.

SUMMARY/CHECKLIST:

  • conference: register with petra.meersteiner@uni-erfurt.de (€ 120 for food and conference venue); please do not forget to register even if you are on the program.
  • travel: please make your own arrangements
  • accommodation: please make your own reservation, either in the Augustinerkloster (rooms on hold until March 18) or in one of the ho(s)tels in town

Thanks so much again for submitting these wonderful proposals and for your interest in the conference. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all in Erfurt.

With best wishes,

Nina Mackert & Jürgen Martschukat
