Authority and Trust in American Culture, Society, History, and Politics
Funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), the interdisciplinary Training Group will focus on three broadly defined research areas: (1) the authority of the modern state and trust in public and social institutions; (2) the urban dimension of authority and trust; (3) authority and trust in literature, culture and religion.
We target postgraduates with a background in the following disciplines: American Studies, urban geography, history, literature and culture, political science, social science, linguistics, economics, and religious history.
Applicants must be fluent in English; hold an excellent master’s degree or equivalent; and propose an innovative dissertation project within the thematic focus of the Training Group.
Members of the Research Training Group must take residence in Heidelberg and enroll as doctoral students at Heidelberg University.

Gross annual salaries—predicated on the German public sector remuneration system (TV-L)—will start at € 32,400 plus benefits (health, nursing care, pensions, and unemployment).
