3-Year PostDoc: American Visual History “Documentary Drawing in the 20th Century” (Amerika-Institut, Munich)

The DFG-funded project “Documentary Drawing in the 20th Century” is seeking a PostDoc researcher (100%; TVL-13, for 36 months) with a background in Art History, American History, or a related field. Key responsibilities include runing and researching the section of the project concerned with “documentary drawing in war”, and co-curating the exhibition planned for 2027. 

Candidates should have a PhD in Art History, History or a related field, deep interest and expertise in visual culture studies (esp. drawing) and the theory of documentary practices; knowledge of US twentieth century history is a plus. Experience in planning and conducting research, including archival work and organising academic events is expected; previous experience in curation is a bonus. Moreover we are looking for someone with an aptitude for digital research infrastructures (e.g. Omeka, RDMO tools, easydb); overall someone enthusiastic and committed, who is a good communicator and willing to show initiative. Funds for research and conference travel will be available and conducting research towards a second book (Habilitation) within the framework of the project is encouraged.
